Newton's strongest asset - and what seems to be a central guiding factor among these finely crafted tales - is his ability to bore so relentlessly into the personalities of his characters and the chaos of their lives, yet ultimately offer up tales of personal horror so identifiable one can nearly feel the darkness lapping at their shoes. While some stories show some awkwardness of an author still exploring his craft, for the most part these are not stories that have been recycled from genre clichés; Newton's highly inventive stories resonate with a frightening honesty and compulsive readability.
Following the earlier release of THE HOUSE SPIDER, Kurt Newton's second collection
for Delirium Books is both a fine collection of chilling tales of unsettling
loss and stark, unfettered brutality - as well as an intriguing revisiting of
a writer whose talent and confidence seems to heighten with each new story and
with each collection.
Available in both signed/limited hardcover and trade-paperback format.
