Fight Club is a powerhouse cult novel, with bestseller prose that grabs you by the throat and punches you into submission, just like the Fight Club events at its heart.
It's a diatribe against any consumer product that tries to define its owner. It screams at the willing emasculation of 90's men. It tells you how to make soap out of people's parents.
Palahniuk punctuates his novel with a series of facts - "mix equal parts gasoline and frozen orange juice concentrate and you make nitro- glycerin" - trivial and shocking at the same time.
You may have seen the film, but the book is even better.
Excellent.
