Derailed by James Siegel

Successful Long Island advertising executive Charles Schine, while travelling into Manhattan on the railroad, gets lured into an adulterous relationship with a fetching raven haired stockbroker. Schine's life by his own admission had become stale. His marriage, while still solid, lacked passion. His daughter, Anna, a juvenile diabetic required constant attention due to the virulent nature of the disease. Schine's job had become overly taxing. In short he was ripe for an affair...

Schine and the gorgeous stockbroker, Lucinda, gradually became bolder and bolder in their liaisons. Their escapades eventually culminate in a morning of lust at a seedy downtown hotel. While departing the room they are robbed, brutally assaulted and Lucinda is savagely raped by a heartless lout. Threatened with exposure, they shun the police and soon become ripe for extortion.

Schine trying to extricate himself from this untenable predicament becomes more deeply mired in the whole trouble while desperation sets in.

How can he escape the danger he has put himself, and his family, in?

Siegel leads us through an elaborate, labyrinthine plot with unexpected twists and turns. The conclusion nicely ties the plots together and is a satisfying conclusion.

Well worth it.
